David Bulick is our Chief Everything Officer, whose strategic vision is turning Charleston Hemp Company into an industry powerhouse. David brings a diverse career in hospitality, horticulture, supply chain and entrepreneurship to this company, which is quickly emerging as one of the region’s top hemp processors and marketers. His vision is to help rank South Carolina as one of the nations top hemp producers with the highest industry standards. His goal is to bring to market the purest, American grown CBD.
Wife of David and close advisor to the organization, Jeanette hails from the mountains of Georgia. She and David came to the Lowcountry 17 years ago, and together, they’ve raised a wonderful daughter and have built a thriving business. She enjoys spending time with friends and family, going to festivals and concerts and is a fan of college football. “Go Dawgs!” The Bulick’s have been married for 25 years and have K9’s Diesel and Tucker and a feline named Phil.
Hannah was raised in the Lowcountry and is currently a senior at Ashley Ridge High School. She also attends Trident Technical College and plans to pursue her undergraduate degree in biology with a focus on pre-med. She loves cooking and four-wheeling, shopping and going muddin. She’s a country music fan and loves Jason Aldean and Kane Brown.
Dr. Melissa Milanak
Dr. Melissa Milanak is a licensed clinical psychologist and an instructor in the sleep and anxiety treatment and research program (SATRP) as well as the associate director for continuing education in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at MUSC. Her current work at MUSC focuses on the nature of etiology and treatment of PTSD and comorbid sleep disorders as well as examining how sleep can play a role in the onset, maintenance, and/or prevention of PTSD. For Charleston Hemp Company, Dr. Milanak is spear-heading our education mission and will direct further research initiatives.
Dr. Mark Hamann
Dr. Mark T. Hamann serves as the Charles and Carol Cooper/SmartState Endowed Chair of Drug Discovery and Biomedical Sciences at the MUSC College of Pharmacy. He also holds Adjunct appointments with The University of Maryland’s Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology and the Bigelow Marine Laboratory in Maine. During his research career, Dr. Hamann has published over 200 scientific papers, reviews, book chapters and guided over 100 graduate students/postdoctoral fellows and visiting scholars. Dr. Hamann currently serves as an Associate Editor for Biochimica et Biophysica Acta, General Subjects. His group is actively involved in the isolation, structure determination and optimization through synthesis of natural products and toxins with a focus on plant and invertebrate microbiomes. His group is currently working on the preclinical development of a small pipeline of natural products with activity against cancer, emerging infectious diseases and neuropsychiatric disorders.
Dr. Xiaojuan Wang
Xiaojuan is a PhD candidate at the Medical University of South Carolina studying in the Drug Discovery and Biomedical Services department. She in charge of research and development and carefully tests each batch of CBD as part of her role at our manufacturing facility. She came to the Lowcountry from GasSu, China and will complete her degree in 2019. She enjoys pop music, reading and sharing good food with family and friends.
Dr. Chip Mathis
Dr. Chip Mathis is a graduate of Clemson University and the Medical University of South Carolina. He is a licensed pharmacist dedicated to ensuring the safety of our products and perfecting the quality, efficacy and consistency in everything we make. He and his wife have three rescue dogs and a little grey cat, and spend their free time traveling the world and watching Clemson football.
Nicholas is from Westfield, Massachusetts and a graduate of the College of Charleston with a B.S. in Biology. As a team Extraction Specialist he is responsible for research and development and quality control. In his free time you’ll likely find him outside biking or kayaking. And on fall Sunday’s you’ll find him with friends watching football and firing up the grill. Nicholas thinks his 10 year-old Australian Sheppard, Otis, believes he’s a human.
Janet came to the Lowcountry by way of Michigan and is the Executive Assistant to David. With a Bachelors degree as well as a Paralegal degree, she’s well equipped to take on her long list of duties. From customer service to product development, Janet helps oversee the entire operation and keeps the team on track. In her spare time she loves playing with her granddaughter at the beach, hanging with Maya, her Siberian Husky and listening to country music.
Jade comes to the farm from New Bloomfield, MO and has been a key team member from the beginning of the Hemp Adventure. As a Hemp Honcho he is responsible for tending to the crops, processing the harvest, keeping machinery working and designing processing systems. He even helps to develop and refine recipes for our CBD products. When he’s not on the farm you’ll find him golfing, hunting, and attending concerts. He loves the outdoors and spending time with his grandfather.
Malia is a College of Charleston graduate who turned an interest in health and people into her key role here, guiding our public outreach at events and festivals. She also builds retail partnerships, oversees inventory and production and helps recruit other Hemp Ambassadors into the organization. Originally from Columbia, SC, Malia likes to spend her free time exploring Charleston and hanging with her peeps doing anything outdoors. She has a wolf-hybrid named Saidee and they both like all kinds of music.
Glenn is a native of the Lowcountry and a skilled farmer in his own right. He’s one the key Bud Tenders at the farm and is a wiz at solving problems on the fly. In his down-time he enjoys cooking, watching sports and taking in Charleston’s culinary offerings. He’s also a big supporter and volunteer of area non-profits including the Charleston Animal Society. His travels have taken him to four continents and his best bud is his K9, Maddie – who is one of the official taste testers of our pet treats.
Rhonda is a Summerville, SC native and one of the team’s key movers and shakers. As a Hemp Ambassador, Rhonda works closely with physicians and health care providers and is helping to educate the medical industry on the benefits of CBD. Married to her high-school boyfriend, Rhonda loves skydiving, horseback riding, wake boarding and running half-marathons. Her perfect day would be spent outdoors at the beach or doing yard work. Her Labrador Retriever, Piper, is a human in dog camo!
Melissa, originally from Ellsworth, Michigan, is the Manager at our Low Country Nursery operations. She has two degrees and applies her education to the daily operations for the nursery as well as numerous responsibilities for the manufacturing and marketing of our hemp products. When she’s not at the farm, the nursery or at one of the many events we attend, she loves sports and plays softball and volleyball. Her perfect day, however is spent with her daughter.
Reminton is a Lowcountry native and a “jack of all trades” as his responsibilities include public outreach, tending the crops and working hard at the Lowcountry Nursery location. His can-do approach to all things hemp make him an invaluable member of the team. In his spare time he enjoys being with this son, hunting, fishing and riding motorcycles and four-wheelers.
Paige is originally from the Midlands of South Carolina and is a graduate of the College Of Charleston with a BA in Communications. She has a keen interest in Tourism, Arts Management and Hospitality Management and is one of our key Hemp Ambassadors at area festivals and events. She assists in the production of our products and shares in the mission to help educate about the benefits of hemp. In her spare time she takes in live music, the outdoors and the arts and she loves to travel. She even roams the country in a food truck from time to time.
Jennifer left Vermont to attend the University of South Carolina. She settled in Charleston shortly after graduation and happily calls the Lowcountry home. As a Hemp Ambassador, Jennifer manages partnerships for retail, wholesale and White Label opportunities. She’s our “go-to” person for emerging business development. In her free time, Jennifer enjoys volunteering, yoga, fishing, reading and taking long walks on the beach with pups and pals.
